The Kile's Full-Time RV'ing Blog: No Canada this year

Well, we left our summer job site as planned on September 28th after completing our season. We had a good time there and made some new friends, both working friends and customer friends. Our trip from Clarkston Washington was to go north on highway 95 straight up through Idaho and then cut east on highway 2, then north on highway 93 into Canada. However, just before reaching highway 2 just south of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, I discovered tire problems on the trailer. Being in the middle of no-where and heading deeper into it we decided to turn around and head for Spokane. We spent the night there and then on Tuesday we go new tires. While having new tires put on, I discovered a puddle of oil under the truck, so after we got tires it was off to Western States for some Caterpillar engine work. The CAT shop was just a quarter mile away. We did not get out of there until 8:30 that evening. While there we found out that Wednesday and Saturday they where expecting ice, and on Sunday there where getting snow. So as the title name implies no trip to Canada this year. After leaving so late and not being able to get a campsite we headed west of Spokane to a town Airway Heights, thank you Wal-Mart for a place to park for the night. The next morning we go up and headed for the Seattle area, taking highway 2 to hwy 97A to hwy 20. Highway 20 is the Northern Cascades Highway and was our route to the west coast. We Wednesday night at Riverside RV Park in the town of Twisp, WA. Thursday night found us in East Anacortes at the Northern Lights Casino campground. No, it was not the gambling that brought us here, it was the stay one nigh and get one night free that did it. I figured that this was a far better bet an more of a sure thing. Today Friday we drove north to a town of Blaine, WA to pick up a part. Then back to Anacortes on highway 20 which took us as far north and west as we can go without leaving the country. We drove around the bays and ports, we saw an old wooden ship that had not moved in some time, it had a small forest growing on the main deck with trees that where 20 to 30 feet tall. Tomorrow we leave for Elma, WA which is just south of the Olympic National Park, we will stay in the area 3 or 4 days and explore.
